Nice Friday evening...with a little surprise

Yesterday we got invited to spend an evening with Chip and Angie and their baby boy. We had a nice dinner and a blast at the pool. We played few games of Cornhole after we came back from the pool. I also took a lot of great shots of the baby. Here is one of my favorites...

In this photo I focused on his little toes while he was taking a nap by the pool. It was around 7pm, the light was still good. I used Aperture Priority (f/5.6), with ISO-400 and exposure time was 1/30 sec.

The little surprise I had was the airplanes flying by while we were at the pool. I got to take a few photos of the airplanes flying in the sky. I always like to try to photograph airplane during the takeoff, landing or while it is in the sky.

I think the airplanes was getting ready to land at the airport nearby. They were flying very low. The good thing was the 70-300mm lens already on my camera so I just need to zoom it all the way to get the close up shots. I was not ready for the airplane shots. I saw the airplanes coming, tried to think about what setting I needed, and when they got closer I tried to focus and get the right composition. It was quick everything ended in few seconds.

For this shot my camera already set on Aperture Priority setting (f/5.6) with ISO-400 and the exposure time was 1/400 sec.

This second picture, the setting was on Shutter Speed Priority (exposure time was 1/160 sec), with ISO-400 and the f/9 for the Aperture.

The first 2 airplane photos I didn't change anything. This last one here I cropped the photo to get a better composition and closer view of the airplane.

I'm glad I had the chance to photograph the airplanes. Hopefully next time I will be more prepare and know what setting is the best to use to photograph it. Thanks to Angie and Chip, all of us had a fun evening and the children was sound asleep on the way home. We had a quiet ride home. :)
