2 sticks of butter
1/2 cup of CRISCO shortening
3 cups of sugar
3 cups of all purpose flour
1/2 tsp of baking powder
5 eggs
1 cup of milk
1 tsp of vanilla
I got this recipe from my mother-in-law. This is one of our favorite desserts. It has to be tasty with all the sugar and butter. :)
My children asked me once, "why do they call it pound cake, is it because we will gain a pound after we eat it?". I told them "maybe". After that, every time they finish a piece of the pound cake they will go and stand on the scale, but I think they have outgrow that stage by now.
This is the cake batter in the tube pan before baking. I've learned that I can't just pour the cake batter in the tube pan. I did that once and the batter started to leak out from the bottom of the pan when I started baking it in the oven. I ended up putting a little tray at the bottom of it to catch the batter. I was freaking out a little bit and thankfully it stopped after a little while. Now I just use a big spoon and scoop it into the tube pan evenly. I think that fixed the problem.
...tada...1 hour and 20 minutes later the cake is done.
You can eat the Pound Cake plain or eat it with sliced peaches.
